This West Seattle project was extraordinarily challenging, and at the same time ideal. Challenging because the entire site was an Environmentally Critical Area, limiting development to the "grandfathered" footprint of the existing house. Ideal because our clients were truly visionary, the Program well articulated and smart, and the site...overlooking a greenbelt 380 feet above Puget Sound...stunning!
A modest mid-century rambler came up for sale next to our client's Craftsman style residence of 25 years, and they snapped it up. The goal was to transform this house into a studio/guest house, with ample exterior space. Stylistically, it was to blend seamlessly with the Craftsman style main house, while evoking more the feeling of Tuscany.
